At ELLE we are committed to supporting the fight for gender equality in every capacity, country and walk of life.
Most recently ELLE backed the Chime For Change initiative spearheaded by Gucci’s Frida Giannini, Beyoncé and Salma Hayek. Girls’ and women’s empowerment is something we’re passionate about.
That’s why were also getting behind the Gender Equality International Development Bill.
On the 13 September, this bill is being read in Parliament. If it’s passed it will mean a small but important addition to the UK International Development act related to gender equality. We're cheerleading for its pass – and we want you to too.
The Gender Equality (International Development) Bill aims to ensure that the Government considers the impact on gender equality when they are delivering UK international aid and development assistance.
GREAT – a global gender equality charity set up by broadcaster Mariella Frostrup, performer and author Karen Ruimy and human rights lawyer Jason McCue – is also supporting the bill as part of their continuing fight to ensure that women internationally get their voices heard and have the opportunities they need.
Gender equality is good for everyone. It’s good for health, education and economics… So get involved – tweet your support using @ELLEUK #yes4equalaid and visit thegreatinitiative.org.uk for more information.
