Delicate neutrals, shimmering metallics and elegant fish-tail gowns stole the show at last night’s Golden Globe Awards, as the A-list elite shunned bolds and brights for a subtle take on red carpet dressing.
A pre-cursor to the Oscars, if the stars were looking for a stage upon which to make a style statement, the red carpet of the Golden Globes was it.
But instead, Heidi Klum in Calvin Klein Collection, Kate Beckinsale in Roberto Cavalli, Jessica Alba in Gucci and Charlize Theron in Dior, all plumped for neutral champagne tones giving a subtle, subdued appeal to the proceedings.
In a nod to old-school Hollywood glamour, fishtail gowns were an elegant choice for Tilda Swinton, who wore Haider Ackerman, and Julianne Moore who wore Chanel Couture. While at the bolder end of the fish-tale scale, Kelly Osborne chose a blue Zac Posen gown.
Red carpet new comer Rooney Mara rose to the top of the style stakes in a black Nina Ricci gown, and Mila Kunis followed suit in a sophisticated, black strapless Dior creation.
When it came to designers, Lanvin stood out, with Natalie Portman, and ‘The Help’ actress Emma Stone both wearing the French house with aplomb.
Magnificent in metallics were Lea Michele in Marchesa, Nicole Richie in Julien Macdonald, and Andie McDowell in David Meister Signature, while deep blues and greens were the tones of choice for Michelle Williams in Jason Wu, Evan Rachel Wood in Gucci Premiere and Freida Pinto in Prada.
