Last night in New York Hugh Jackman hosted the 68th annual Tony Awards, which honor excellence in Broadway theatre.

Jackman set the tone for the evening by hopping around like a kangaroo for a full five minutes before showcasing his musical prowess by rapping Music Man with LL Cool J and T.I. Respect, Hugh.

Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston won a best actor trophy for his Broadway debut and Brit Mark Rylance scooped an award for his performance as Olivia in Twelfth Night.

Kate Mara and Maggie Gyllenhaal both wore heavily embellished Dolce & Gabbana dresses to the event, which was also attended by Tina Fey, Leighton Meister and Adam Brody - who made their first appearance together as a married couple (always Blair Waldorf and Seth Cohen to us).

But the night belonged to Neil Patrick Harris. The star of How I Met Your Mother took home the award for best performance by an actor in a musical for Hedwig and the Angry Inch. His Tony performance as Hedwig – in long blonde wig and denim mini dress – was mesmerising. During the high-energy number he licked Samuel L Jackson’s spectacles, gave Sting a lapdance and thrust, a lot, in the direction of Orlando Bloom. It went down a storm.
