Back in 2011, French artist Laure Prouvost won the MaxMara Art Prize for women and now she can also add Turner Prize Winner to her increasingly impressive list of accolades.
The 35-year-old French artist (who lives and works in London) was awarded the £25,000 prize for her work Wantee last night.
Actress Saoirse Ronan presented the award and brought Provousts baby daughter, Celeste, on stage as Provoust gave her thank you speech: I'm not ready, I didn't expect it at all!
The conceptual film documents Prouvosts search for her fictional grandfather a character she imagined as a close friend of artist Kurt Schwitters. The audience follows this journey while seated in a room dressed for a tea party.
The panel of judges described the film as outstanding for its complex and courageous combination of images and objects in a deeply atmospheric environment.
Humorous artist David Shrigley, painter Lynette Yiadom-Boakye and performance artist Tino Sehgal were also shortlisted and will receive £5000.
The Turner Prize exhibition will be on display at the Ebrington Barracks until 5 January.
