If you buy one thing this season, make it a blouse. Avril Mair explains why and what to buy…
It started, as fashion trends often do, with Kate Moss. There she was, en route to her 34th birthday lunch earlier this year, in a white Chanel blouse. She was also wearing tailored trousers and towering heels, but the whole look focused around this blouse. It had a row of tiny buttons, some unfastened, long sleeves that caught just so on the wrist and, importantly, a pussy bow that was fluttering undone. It said a lot of things, this blouse. It said that she was not as frivolous as we’d always thought. It said that she was softer somehow, but more controlled. It said that she was fashion forward enough to wear such an oddly out-of-fashion thing as a blouse. It also promised that in a few months we’d all want one.
