The stars shine at the 2008 Cannes amFAR benefit

Diane Kruger

The hottest ticket at The Cannes Film Festival last night (and actually all week) was undoubtedly the amfAR party in Le Moulin de Mougins, just outside Cannes.

And of course, where Madonna goes, everybody at Cannes follows, it seems. Pop’s First Lady chose a very demure silk Stella McCartney dress with a prim pussy bow for the event, the polar opposite to Sharon Stone, who arrived in va-va-voom leopard print Dior.

But she was after all hosting the main event, an auction to raise money for Cinema Against Aids, the charity launched by Elizabeth Taylor in 1985. Up for grabs was a jewelled dress designed by Alberta Ferretti with Chopard, a Porsche 911 and a dinner date with the stunning Diane Kruger (pictured). Although some guests may not have had any cash left with which to bid, after forking out a minimum of $5000 each for an individual ticket (a table for ten cost between $40,000 and $150,000).

Other guests included Christian Slater, Natalie Portman, in Givenchy and birthday girl Naomi Campbell (who turned 38 yesterday). She wore a white chiffon halter neck gown with crystal detailing, designed by her friends Domenico Dolce and Stefan Gabbana especially for the event. Lucky girl, you might say, but something clearly upset her later in the evening as she was layer spotted leaving a party hosted by P Diddy in tears.

Let’s hope she cheers up in time for tonight’s Dolce & Gabbana event, where she is guest of honour. Although, it is her party, so she can cry if she wants to!
