It’s been over a month since I returned to work from my fourth maternity leave. And in this blog I promised to update you every day on what I was doing and to give you a sneak peek inside the world of ELLE. I hope you’ve enjoyed it, and thank you for your comments.

Now we’ve gotten to know each other again (and you’ve seen what an editor wears to work), it’s time to evolve the blog into something really useful for you. And to do that, less is more.

From now on, I will be posting twice a week (though you’ll still get to see what I wear to work almost every day) with more of the information you really like: careers advice, intern guidance, fashion tips and general insider information on how a monthly fashion magazine works. How does that suit you?

As I’ve said before, this is your magazine and I need to concentrate on making it as useful, playful and relevant as possible for you, so I’ll post longer and better, but less frequently. To fill the gaps though, because I know you want something new every day, I’m going to get guest editors to blog with me.

I am properly back in the hot seat now and deep in the planning of future issues of ELLE. You can plan with me now and follow my progress!

This week, I’m inspired by these pictures:

Patti Smith and the Doves by Robert Mapplethorpe

I keep this postcard on my desk at all times. It says ‘spirited and free thinking’ to me. The Patti Smith biography by Nick Johnstone is out in paperback soon and they sent me a preview copy today

My closest friend sent me this: sometimes the knowledge that someone else is thinking of you eases you through a stressful day. She sent this with a poem entitled April Rain and Blossoms. Whimsical moments are nourishing for the hard-working soul!
