This is the time of year when the fashion team and I talk new-season fashion trends and plan what we are going to shoot (buy/wear/lust after) for our autumn and winter issues of ELLE. Inevitably, a key piece crops up early in our discussions. Besides noting that smaller heels (not kitten, just lower than the oh-so high ones of seasons past) will be the mainstay of your shoe collection, we all fell in love with the Givenchy boot.
This black leather boot – in Givenchy’s pre-fall collection out in June and a/w ready-to-wear collection – sums up why we love its creative director Riccardo Tisci. Inspired by a 1920s Russian riding boot, the heel with a sleeve is sexy, stylish and a powerful statement piece.
What I like about Tisci is that he is loyal to his woman – he knows the Givenchy girl through and through. From Madonna to Courtney Love via one of my favourite all-time models Mariacarla Boscono, he dresses the spirited rebel who likes luxury and individuality.
So, who do we want to see wearing this Givenchy boot? Suggestions please! I think it would be amazing to see something this on-trend worn on Saturday night TV rather than the safe red-carpet outfits so many presenters and celebrity judges seem to go for. I may even suggest it to Karren Brady for the next season of The Apprentice!
We’ve all tried on the Givenchy boot at ELLE – it was shot for our August issue’s new collections story if you want to see it worn really well – and the consensus is that you probably need to be over 5ft 5in to work it. Sadly, this rules me out.
Acne’s soft leather jacket in what I’m calling a ‘violent blue’! This reminds me of a Christopher Kane jacket I so nearly bought two years ago, but I couldn’t decide whether to invest or not and then found out there was none left in my size. I borrowed this from the fashion cupboard today, but it’s on sale in June.
Alexander Wang has the best black bags! This is a new-season goodie
Love these androgynous boots. But can a woman with size 7 feet wear them? Sadly, I can’t, but I like looking at them, don’t you?
She looks so happy!
