6am: Up and showered. Prepare outfit. Floral again, in the manner of a first lady, with a very easy to wear J Crew skirt, white shirt (you should have three good white shirts in your wardrobe: one in the wash, one to wear and a spare) and my shoes that go with everything. No, really they do and thus worth every penny.

8.40am: Leave for the school run.

9.15am: Arrive at work, coffee in hand. Today is mostly office-based.

10am: News conference with the ELLEuk website team. We discuss digital plans for the week and what’s happening in fashion and the rest of the world. And, of course, we talk new launches (Alexa Chung is at Bicester Village this week as spokesperson for the British Designers Collective – the pop up store stocking the work of emerging British designers).

11am: Future covers meeting. The who, what, wear of magazines – and the most fun of the meetings, too. I may be wearing spring, but I am talking autumn/winter. We go through who we would love to shoot for you, who is available and then come up with a fashion lead concept for the pictures. The ELLE art team then makes a mood board for me to consider, based on the trends that are right for that cover and the clothes we feel suit the star. You saw some of this in action last week with our Kristen Stewart cover shoot for the June issue.

12am: Next I approve layouts, read features and ask the team to update me on the issues we are working on.

1pm: Lunch is a sandwich with my publisher – and we talk budgets. I don’t have enough, of course, but my publisher (who oversees the financial side of the magazine) thinks I spend too much! What do you think?

2pm: Visuals meeting. We spend a long time working out what visuals to use with our features in ELLE. The idea, creatively, is that whatever page the magazine falls open on looks exactly as an ELLE page should – stylish and spirited. You should know it’s ELLE even if you haven’t seen the cover and that’s what we strive to do with our visual content.

3pm: Beauty meeting. So what’s new, what products are launching and how do we make them relevant for an ELLE reader? This week we discussed Clinique’s new season colours; look out for the chubby stick in ‘pudgy peony’ for a sheer, subtle lip tint – great for that natural Spring look.

5pm: Tea with the press team at . We talk ideas. As an editor I need to keep up with all the design houses and their future plans. I rarely have time for lunch, so tea works well as it focuses me on making sure all my work is done before I leave the building.

TODAY THE EDITOR:

Downloaded Skirt Alert: Sometimes, like today, you don't have time to research the ins and outs of the weather, you just want the fashion forecast (i.e. 'Is it suitable for bare legs?') Well, there's an app for that!
