Facebook was originally conceived in 2004 in Mark Zuckerbergs Harvard hall of residence as a means for shy students to chat.
Fast forward a decade - and a blockbuster film later - and present day sees the companys global expansion with over a billion users logged on.
To commemorate this momentous birthday, weve delved into the dark depths of our social networking past to present you with our first ever we cringe Facebook profile pictures.
Try not to judge us as we take a gleeful trip down memory lane.
This picture doesn’t repulse me now like some of the pictures in my photo stream – it was 8 years ago so I was younger and less practised as I am now at being photographed (thanks What ELLE Wears).

I had just had a fringe cut when I put this photo up. Aside from the fact that I look kind of crazed, it's making me want to have a fringe again.

I have no idea why I chose this but not much has changed in that I am still obsessed with ears, masks, leopard print and glitter- god knows what my pose is though!

June 2009 on a girls holiday. This picture was probably chosen as a reminder of happy times, plus those big sunglasses hide a multiple of sins!

I think I liked this picture because it made me look like I wasn’t taking myself too serious. I’m not into selfies – this was the best there was back then. Oh, and it was shot on a polaroid and scanned – the good olden days

This was taken at work during an epic hangover in 2006. I'd seen Youthmovies play 93 Feet East the night before and had WAY too much fun. Spot last night's eyeliner! God knows why I picked this for my profile pic...

Here I was thinking my first profile picture was a very nice wedding snap, but it turns out my memory failed me. My husband and I had a joint hen-stag karaoke party and egged on by our friend, we had a couple tequila shots. Very uncharacteristic behaviour, I swear!

I love this pic: it was taken at Glastonbury, waiting for Jay Z to come on stage – and I'd just found a concrete bin to stand on for a good vantage point, so I was very pleased with myself. This is probably the most flattering picture I have – so I still use it for everything.
