Over 100,000 people gathered at East London’s Hackney Marshes this weekend for Radio 1’s hackney Weekend festival.
With Jay-Z and Rihanna headlining and a line-up that included Jessie J, Florence and the Machine, Rita Ora and Dizzee Rascal with a cameo from Kanye West, it’s shaping up to be one of the best festivals of 2012, and a fittingly urban launch to the Olympics nearby.
Being East London, East London rules naturally applied to the wardrobes. No pink wellies here thank you very much. Instead, an array of chunky Chelsea and lace-up boots, a Wang bag here and a plaid shirt there. In short, nothing to scream ‘festival’, and every care taken to morph yourself in and out of Brick Lane life either side...
We caught up with Gemma Cairney backstage. Read all about her festival highlights...
