I can’t get these Nicholas Kirkwood shoes out of my head. A pearl-studded platform, aisle-friendly supportive sling-back shape, and best of all, something blue. What more could a bride (this bride) want in a shoe?

Well, an actual bridal shoe perhaps? WWD reports that more and more brides are looking outside the traditional bridal wear box for their footwear on their big day. Ivory satin pumps, it seems, don’t really cut the mustard anymore – brides want to spend big on something fantastic that will be a keepsake long after the day is over. And designers have heard the call. Amongst the designers to have recently stepped up their bridal offerings are Jimmy Choo, Giuseppe Zanotti and Sergio Rossi, as well as a hotly anticipated collection from Charlotte Olympia called Runaway Bride, which includes leopard print platforms and red satin pumps (more on this collection to come).

The exquisite blue shoe from Nicholas Kirkwood is not a bridal shoe per se, but it’s the perfect example of a fantasy shoe that would work perfectly as a wedding shoe - think creatively because if you are going to spend a lot of money on a special pair of shoes, wouldn’t it make sense to buy something that you’ll be able to wear for years to come?
