According to WWD, celebrity weddings are giving boost to the bridal boudoir business. Between the mammoth weddings of last year - Kate Middleton, Kate Moss and the ill-fated Kim Kardashian – and the upcoming big guns of 2012 (Angelina Jolie, Jessica Biel and Anne Hathaway), talk of weddings is at the tips of many tongues. And once we’re done talking about the dress, the ring, the veil, the hairstyle - what’s left to dissect? What lies beneath...
The bridal trousseau is a very special part of a wedding, special because for the most part it is one of the few things that remains private to the bride on a very public day. And I’m not just referring to the lingerie – a good bridal trousseau will span from the nightdress she wears on the night before the wedding to the lacy nothings she chooses for the honeymoon. What could be more fun than shopping for that?
It may seem utterly extravagant, but I have been enjoying daydreaming about beautiful dressing gowns to wear the morning of the wedding, to really gild the lily on the whole day. The photographer usually arrives early to capture this crucial part of the day which is filled with nerves, girls and bubbly. Imagine how luxurious it would be to be wrapped in swaddling silk whilst having your hair and make-up done. Wafting around in chiffon and lace – what could be a more fitting apparel for someone about to be married?
These are my fantasy pieces: from Jenny Packham's spectacular silk kimono to Agent Provocateur's teasing Daena robe; from the classic ivory silk of Rigby & Peller to the snuggly cotton of The White Company for winter brides, and the vintage rose gown from Fox & Rose. And just for fun, the maribou confection from La Perla, exclusively at Selfridges. I failed to find a vintage silk kimono so if anyone knows of where to find one do please leave a comment below.
