I love the beaches of Porthcurno, in southwest Cornwall, they’re the closest thing to paradise you’ll find on these shores. For the more free-thinking among you, it’s worth the scrabble over the rocks from there to get to Pednevounder, but don’t be surprised to find a little more on show than the view - #nudists.

Where to stay:

Just down the coast in Mousehole is The Old Coastguard, a lovely small hotel recently given a shipshape makeover by the Inkin brothers, past masters at reinvigorating lovely small hotels. Warm colours, attractive prices, great (mostly local) food and a happy vibe are their hallmarks.

The airy bar and dining room are a great place to hang out. Doors open onto a decked terrace, a lush lawn, then the coastal path down to the small harbour.

Bedrooms (below) are lovely: sand-coloured walls, excellent beds, robes in the bathrooms and many have balconies with that view (above).

The food here is not to be missed, think crab rarebit, fish stew and malted milk ice cream with rhubarb and honeycomb.
