Dont be fooled into thinking this is any ordinary African safari lodge: the Luangwa Safari House is packing some serious design credentials. Created by the world-renowned Neil Rocher, it combines ground-breaking design with entirely natural materials to create a unique, and really rather grand, place to stay. The Manor at NgoroNgoro, Tanzania
A stay at The Manor at NgoroNgoro is like stepping back in time. The Dutch colonial-style manor house comes complete with butlers, Victorian-style bathtubs and delicious high teas served up on the decking, looking over the 1500 acres of coffee estate that surrounds it. Despite the elegance and grandeur of the Manor itself, its the NgoroNgoro Crater thats the real draw, however. Tarangire Treetops, Tanzania
Taking the idea of getting back to nature one step further, the rooms at Tarangire Treetops are high up on stilts under the wide canopies of the Marula trees. From this incredible vantage point the treetop hideaways offer some of the best views of the African plains. The rooms themselves are all crafted from timber, from the rustic beams to the oversized armchairs made from Zanzibari dhow boats, and centre around a main lodge in an 800-year-old Baobab tree.
