West Wittering, West Sussex
The long white sandy shores of West Wittering, bordered by dunes and candy coloured beach huts, are a short hop from the cathedral town of Chichester. It's calm shallow waters overlook the Isle of Wight and at high tide lagoons of warm water form, brilliant for paddling.
Burton Bradstock, Dorset
As part of the World Heritage Jurassic coast, Burton Bradstock's soaring cliffs are a fossil hunters dream. The pebbly beach and wild sea make for fabulous beach walks and exhilarating swimming. Nearby Bridport with it's vintage market is a mecca for shopaholics.
Steephill Cove, Isle of Wight
This secret car free cove on the Southern tip of the island feels a million miles from busy Ventnor, yet it is just a ten minute stroll away along the cliffs. Alteratively park at the beautiful Botanical gardens and wind your way down to the beach, past pretty cottages and the Crab Shack cafe.
St Mawes, Cornwall
St Mawes is one of those classic Cornish seaside harbour villages where time seems to have stood still. Fishing boats come and go, and the beach that stretches along the unspoilt Roseland peninsular is perfect for rock pooling and beach picnics.
Camber Sands, East Sussex
Lay down your picnic blanket in a secluded spot among Camber Sands golden dunes and while away the day snacking and sunbathing. Be sure to take a sunset stroll along the wide sandy bay before wandering round medieval Rye's cobbled streets across the estuary.
