Floating Cinema - Thailand

Here at ELLEuk we’re huge fans of a quirky cinema, but this one takes outdoor screenings to a whole new level. Named the Archipelago Cinema, it floats on a raft off the island of Yao Noi in Southern Thailand. Designed by architect Ole Scheeren, it’s built entirely from recycled materials and has giant cushions you can relax back on. It’s only reachable by boat, bringing a new meaning to drive-in cinema. And if you’re really making a romantic break of it, you can always check in at one of our gorgeous honeymoon hotels in Thailand while you’re there...

USA Summer Road Trip

With the much awaited film adaptation of On the Road hitting cinemas on September 21st (Kristen Stewart and Sam Riley are starring in it – we can’t wait) it’s sparked all sorts of ideas for incredible USA road trips. We’re torn between wanting to hire a Cadillac and drive from New York to Nashville, hometown of some of the best loved blues and jazz legends, or taking the traditional Route 66, which runs through Chicago, Illinois, Texas and Arizona and ends up in LA. Thelma and Louise eat your heart out.

From there, you can make use of the three bars, the ten-person hot tub and sauna, the wine tasting cellar and dinner cooked by your own personal chef. At £5,000 for full hire for a night, it certainly doesn’t come cheap, but then again, it’s not really your average place to stay...

Penthouses at the Corinthia

If money really were no object whatsoever, we’d do a Rihanna and book ourselves in for a stay at one of the Corinthia’s seven new penthouses. And, boy are they swanky. Built within the towering Victorian turrets, each one is set over two-storeys and is absolutely enormous. Our pick of the bunch (and it’s a tough call) would be the Hamilton Penthouse, with its freestanding vitality bath on the terrace that overlooks Nelson’s Column, or the Royal Penthouse which stands at 5,000 square feet, has uninterrupted 180-degree views of the city, its own private butler’s kitchen and a wine cellar. Actually, who are we kidding? We’d love a stay in any of them. If only our credit cards would stretch...
