Housed in a historic 16th-century Venetian palazzo idyllically set opposite the beautiful, white dome of Santa Maria della Salute, if you were going to dream up the perfect place for a romantic weekend, Ca Maria Adele would be it. Getting there sets the tone for a stay – you jump in a water taxi from the airport and weave through the vaporettos and gondolas on Venice’s canals, before pulling up right outside the waterside door of the hotel.
Inside, the recently renovated interiors are a sumptuous mix of Murano glass, heavy silks, Swarovski crystals, African furnishings, marble fireplaces, old-world damask fabrics and assorted baroque flourishes. The 12 themed bedrooms, which range from elegant Moroccan splendour to palazzo-style opulence with textured faux-fur wall coverings and velvets, are some of the sexiest in the city. (Note: this is an adults’ only hotel, too – ensuring your romantic getaway won’t be disturbed.)
The North African-inspired terrace has twinkling coloured lanterns and oriental silk cushions – a spectacular spot from which to sip a glass of Prosecco in the evening, or eat breakfast as you watch boats slipping by on the canal. Ca Maria Adele may be located just a few minutes away by water from touristy St.Mark’s, but once inside you’re in a world of your own.
What’s hot?
- The lantern-strung terrace overlooking the canal
- The opulently decorated interiors
- Arriving at its water front reception by water taxi from the airport
What’s not?
- Only 12 rooms, so competition for bookings at peak times is hot
