Single-handedly overturning the notion that a) New York hotel rooms are small and b) that New Yorkers are rude, the all-suite Conrad New York is the only place to stay in Lower Manhattan, with spacious suites and sensational service. It gives a new view on the city: rooms look out to the glittering lights of New Jersey’s skyscrapers across the Hudson, while the Loopy Doopy rooftop bar, named after the dramatic Sol LeWitt artwork in the lobby, looks out over the Statue of Liberty.
The suites at the Conrad are stylish and modern and divide into a sleeping area, with divine king-size beds and floor-to-ceiling windows (to maximise the views of the Hudson), modern, marble wet room-style bathrooms and a pantry area as well as a lounge. Sliding doors separate the areas giving you plenty of privacy. Beyond the space, the details have a real wow factor too - control panels allow you to call for service without lifting up a phone, or put a ‘do not disturb’ notice on your room, while there are full-power hairdryers and generous Aromatherapy Associates toiletries on the bathroom shelf.
Battery Park has never been the go-to area for tourism in New York, but this hotel has set about slowly but surely changing that too. It hosted the 2012 Tribeca awards ceremony dinner and had a celebrity following a month after opening; it’s a superstar in the making.
