At first (and second) glance, Tenby in South Wales looks every inch the traditional bucket ‘n’ spade British seaside town. Which is why North Beach Tenby holiday apartments come as such a surprise – if the cream-coloured Regency townhouse exterior is in keeping with its traditional seaside surroundings, then the cool, modern interiors that greet you inside definitely aren’t.
There are two apartments, Loft and Lux. The colour scheme is the first thing that jumps out at you, with dark purple walls and bright splashes of lime brightening a stripped back monochrome feel in parts. Music and art prints (ranging from the Design Museum and Electric Circus to Sonic Youth posters) share wall space with murals of barcodes and trees in the bedrooms. The furniture includes a number of well-chosen pieces such as a numberless clock, Eames Eiffel chairs, a black and white metal pendant lamp and Paul Smith-esque striped cushions that sit on top of an artfully arranged stack of logs in a window box looking out to sea.
Both apartments are relatively similar, consisting of spacious living rooms, decent kitchens and plenty of seats around the dining table to go with swanky bathrooms in gleaming black, two rooms (a double en suite and a twin). Of the two, Lux probably just about wins out – for its fabulous bay window, complete with leather armchair for taking in the views. It’s a highlight that’s only (just) topped by the fact that the apartments come with their own kayak for you to get out and explore the stunning Pembrokeshire coastline in.
