B+B Belgravia is not at all what, at first glance, it would seem to be. Tucked away behind a grand townhouse façade on a very well-heeled Belgravia street is a place that, in the best possible sense of the word, has a bit of the 'backpacker' about it. There’s a generous, communal feel that underpins everything about it, whether it’s in the travel guides in the bookshelves, the free WiFi or the chance to sit down with a cuppa and a newspaper (both free) after a hard day's charging around London.
Leaving aside the slightly hostel-y vibe, the decor at B+B Belgravia has been carefully thought through. The colour palette is a muted one of white and black mixed with mushrooms and taupes, with the sombreness broken up here and there by vibrant oranges and greens. Up in the 17 rooms, there’s plenty of light and more or less all the facilities you could ask for - from small flat-screen TVs to fans and hairdryers - while bathrooms start small and finish up just a little larger in the superior room categories. There are also a couple of very smart little private apartments available (the Studios@82), just a few doors down, which come with their own cooking facilities.
If you were looking for a luxury bed for the night, B+B Belgravia would be unlikely to hit the spot. If you were instead after one of the most comfortable, central – and stylish – cheap places to stay in London, then it’s absolutely bang-on.
- The swanky Belgravia location
- The affordable rates
- The decent breakfast options
- The dead quiet rooms to the rear of the building
- The outdoor garden area round the back – for settling in with a drink and a magazine on summer evenings
- There’s little in the way of five star frills
