Jimmy’s Supper Club

The back streets of Stratford aren't normally known for culture - until a certain global event parked up next door. So what to do with the surrounding empty warehouses? Turn it into one of the coolest, most on-trend pop-up restaurants in London, of course.

Jimmy's Supper Club at the Annex East is the brainchild of Jimmy Garcia, founder of such other pop-up restaurants as The Wild Food Kitchen and Southwest Supper Club, and is essentially a pared-back mezzanine above a small gallery. But it's everything a hip Brooklyn-style warehouse restaurant should be: exposed brick, low metal beams, a well-stocked plywood bar and exceptionally good cuisine for chefs having to prepare it behind the bar.

Dishes on ELLEuk's visit included the entirely British likes of smoked duck breast or quail's egg salad to start and a trio of pork with crisp belly, confit's pig's cheek and pancetta crisp with spiced apple sauce (simply divine) as one of the three choices of main courses. But no true Brit should complete their meal without the delicious Eton Mess with the freshest of fresh berries. The ethical wine list is excellent, too.

Curating a set of events surrounding the Games, including an Opening Ceremony champagne reception (you can hear the roar from the Stadium from here), Sunday brunch clubs and a big screen throughout, you can forgive Jimmy's for making you walk through derelict high-rises with giant Gillette billboards peppering the skyline. You welcome it, in fact - because you couldn't get any closer to the Olympic Park, unless you were happy with a Big Mac at the entrance. Simply buy tickets on the website for whichever event you fancy (prices start from £27) and the four-course meal is included. A truly unique place to soak up the electric and inclusive atmosphere of what's going to be the greatest event East London's ever seen.
