What's old is new again. In the case of the Marc Jacobs Spring 2018 show, that means an old gel manicure.
Never one to shy away from a weird beauty moment, Marc Jacobs sent his models down the runway wearing a manicure that was meant to mimic the look of a grown-out gel manicure: glossy and shiny nails with a bit of noticeable blank space left down by the cuticle.
Not all the models even had their nails visible since many were styled wearing gloves or ultra-long sleeves (yes, for spring). For the models whose nails you could see, manicurist Jin Soon Choi used the brand-new Marc Jacobs Beauty polish shades hello, dahlia! (peachy pink), fanta-stic (orange-red), coral fixation (true coral), glow business (peachy nude), somewhere. (milky taupe), and poppytart (poppy-red), plus the existing shade blacquer (deepest, shiniest black).
Choi started the colour about a quarter of the way up the nail to give it a 'nail art' negative space effect. From now on, that's what I choose to call my way overdo gel nails. They're not grossly overgrown, they're nail art. They're fashion. Marc Jacobs says so.
