The weather might finally be heating up but when it comes to make-up it seems winter is coming, because at this year's Met Gala icy eyes ruled the white carpet. Perhaps in a nod to Karl Lagerfeld, known for his love of pearls and diamonds, the famous faces gracing the event (with a theme dedicated to the late fashion designer) leant into shimmering, frosted white eye-make up.

Leading the way was Gigi Hadid - dressed in black Givenchy lace and a neck full of diamonds and pearls, the model topped off her ensemble with an equally as dazzling eye look, created by make-up artist Patrick Ta. Above a sharp line of jet black liner, he packed on silvery-white glitter to created a diamond-like eyeshadow effect on Hadid.

Euphoria's Sydney Sweeney, who went for a full bombshell vibe with supersized hair and a fully bejewelled Miu Miu gown, followed suit. Her make-up artist Melissa Hernandez complemented Sweeney's sugared almond outfit with a soft make-up look that featured a 'custom rosy-champagne' eye, made by mixing two Armani Eye Tints to create a pretty frosted sheen.

Kim Petras, Jessica Chastain, Nicola Peltz and Sienna Miller were amongst the many other celebrities also taking part in the frosted fun. With Lagerfeld being perhaps the most recognisable figure in fashion throughout the 1990s, it's no surprise that many embraced the shimmer in homage to the make-up of that decade.

Make-up artist Nadia Tayeh, for example, said that the frosted make-up for model of the moment Imaan Hammam was intended to 'reflect the iconic glamour of the classic nineties supermodels, like Yasmeen Ghauri and Cindy Crawford.' Using Estée Lauder, Hammam's look featured an almost white eyeshadow and high-shine frosted lip.

Even Charlotte Tilbury, a make-up artist famed for perfecting the moody smoky eye, dabbled with the trend on Kate Moss, who topped off her signature rock'n'roll look with a scattering of silver shimmer.

Never one to miss a trend, the always-iconic Lizzo got in on the action too. Using Charlotte Tilbury products, make-up artist Alexx Mayo topped off the singer's pearl-adorned Chanel gown with a soft and feminine make-up look, which featured a subtle shimmer of silver across the eyes leaving the superstar singer looking, as always, good as hell.
