Parasite has won the ‘Best Picture’ Oscar at the 92nd Academy Awards.

A-listers across the film industry gathered at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday night to celebrate cinematography and saw the South Korean film take home the biggest win of the night.

The film, as well as taking home Best Picture, has made history, breaking a record by becoming the first Korean film to be nominated for and win in the Oscars' top category. The award makes it the film's fifth on the night.

'I’m speechless,' the film's executive producer Kwak Sin Ae said as she took to the stage.

'We never imagined this to ever happen, we are so happy. I feel like a very opportune moment in history is happening right now. I express my deepest gratitude and respect to the members of the Academy for making this decision.'

However, seconds after she concluded her speech the lights suddenly went out above the cast and crew members.

The lighting disaster prompted the crowd – including Charlize Theron and Margot Robbie on the front row at the ceremony - to heckle the Academy to get the lights back on (which it then did).

The film was nominated in the category along with Once Upon A Time In… Hollywood, Parasite, The Irishman, Little Women, Jojo Rabbit, Marriage Story, Joker, Ford v Ferrari, and 1917.

The win comes a year after Green Book – starring Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali – received the highly-coveted win, despite Roma and The Favourite leading the nominations in the category.
