Weeks after Keanu Reeves surprised the world by attending the LACMA Art and Film gala with his rumoured girlfriend Alexandra Grant, the actor took his mother along as his date to the 2020 Oscars.
On Sunday night, the actor was seen wearing a black tuxedo on the red carpet and had his mother, Patricia Taylor, on his arm as they posed for the cameras.
The adorable mother-son moment quickly had Twitter talking with users praising the costume designer for her all-white ensemble. For the occasion, the proud mother wore an off-white tuxedo suit with a diamond choker necklace.
‘I’m sorry? KEANU REEVES’ mother is the chicest woman I’ve ever f*cking seen? [sic],’ one user wrote.
Another added: ‘Keanu Reeves' mother! Give her an #Oscar.’
‘Now we see where Keanu Reeves got his super cool chic from - his mother costume designer Patricia Taylor,’ one fan wrote.
‘Honourable mention: KEANU REEVES MOTHER. We stan,’ commented another.
During the pair’s red carpet appearance, some Twitter users also – bizarrely – mistook Taylor for his girlfriend.
‘Isn’t that his girlfriend [sic],’ wrote one user in response to seeing a photo of the duo.
‘I seriously thought that Keanu Reeves mother was his girlfriend we have been seeing...does that make me a bad person?? hmmm [sic],’ added another.
Taylor and the 55-year-old actor bumped into E! News presenter Ryan Seacrest during their red carpet appearance.
On meeting the TV personality, the actor’s mother said ‘Oh, someone else’s son’ suggesting she wasn't too sure who Seacrest was.
The Matrix star wasn’t the only actor to take their mother to the awards ceremony.
Charlize Theron was seen walking the red carpet with her mother Gerda Maritz while Oscar winner Laura Dern posed alongside her famous actress mother Diane Ladd.
Reeves and Grant are yet to confirm that their relationship is romantic despite reports that the pair have been dating for several years.
Grant’s name hit headlines in November 2019 when the internet made note of the couple’s age.
Following their red carpet appearance together, Twitter was alight with comments from users who praised Reeves for being with a woman considered ‘age-appropriate’ for him, at 46 years old.
