Selena Gomez shared a very real, very personal photo on Instagram Thursday (September 14) that revealed her BFF, Francia Raisa, donated one of her kidneys to Selena. "So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering," Sel said in her lengthy caption. "It was what I needed to do for my overall health."
In a world that seems to only care about looks and appearances, Selena's vulnerable photo in the hospital was potentially risky, but it was the right decision. The Disney alum is bringing attention to the struggles people with Lupus deal with every day.
Selena's longtime friend, Zoey 101 star Chris Massey, shared on his own Insta how proud he was of both her and Francia. "I've known these two beautiful souls for so many years!!" he captioned. "And they never seem to stop amazing me!!"
The duo grew up on TV together — on different networks — and have clearly been through a lot over the years. Back in 2015, Chris snapped a cute pic with Selena, commenting, "@Selenagomez killed it on stage 2night I've known her over 10 years and she is still one of the sweetest women I know🔥." D'aww!
