To avid small screen viewers, The Bear needs little to no introduction. Not only did the series, which has made household names of its coterie of protagonists, go home with six Emmys at this year’s awards, but it’s also believed to have been renewed for a fourth season – and that’s before the third, which is scheduled for release later this summer, has even aired. It doesn’t take a TV buff to be able to sniff out a hit show when they see one, and The Bear is an unequivocal gem in the small screen’s crown.

Of course, while the show's protagonist Jeremy Allen White – hello, that Calvin Klein advert – and his co-star Ayo Edebiri may now require little explanation to fans of the show or popular culture at large, in case you have any questions about the rest of the cast and where you recognise them from or what else they’ve starred in, we’ve done the hard work so that you don’t have to.

Before you can grab a seat in the front row of your favourite chaotic kitchen once more later this year, this is everything you need to know about the cast of The Bear.

If his seemingly weekly trips to flower markets in Los Angeles haven’t cropped up on your social media feeds (he buys big bunches of tulips to gift his two daughters, apparently), White may be familiar to you as one of the stars of American Shameless. In fact, he booked the starring role in The Bear, which is directed by Christopher Storer, as he was wrapping up his decade-long stint playing Phillip ‘Lip’ Gallagher on Shameless. Before that, he had several supporting roles, starring in 2018’s rom-com After Everything and hit series Homecoming.

The Bear aside – filming is currently underway for the third instalment of the series – White also stars in this year's A24 film The Iron Claw opposite Zac Efron and Lily James. The film tells the story of the Von Erich brothers as they made history in the world of professional wrestling in the early 1980s.

Of course, the element of White’s life that may need less of a run-down is not only his starring role as a dishevelled hunk in the Calvin Klein campaign that got the internet all hot under the collar upon its release in January, but also his current relationship. Yes, White is also currently Mr. Rosalía (cue hearts breaking all over the world).

Ayo Edebiri (Sydney Adamu) in 'The Bear'

Before winning a Golden Globe and an Emmy for her portrayal of Adamu in The Bear, Edebiri earned her stripes on the New York comedy circuit, where she quickly made her mark and at 24 was offered her own series, Ayo and Rachel Are Single, on Comedy Central.

After her debut Saturday Night Live hosting gig in February, her rising star was cemented. When she isn’t cracking jokes, the star is also impressing critics with her acting – her latest sci-fi film, Omni Loop, just premiered at SXSW to critical acclaim, and has a perfect score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes – and being tapped by fashion brands across the board, most notably Proenza Schouler, Thom Browne and The Row.

Molly Gordon (Claire) in 'The Bear'

Gordon is something of an indie screen queen. Not only has she starred in The Bear since its second season as one of Carmy's former love interests, but the young actor, screenwriter and director has also amassed a string of other impressive credits to her name. She starred in Olivia Wilde's hit 2019 film, Booksmart, 2020's Shiva Baby and alongside her co-star Edebiri in last year's mockumentary-style film, Theatre Camp.

Far from a stranger to the small screen, Elliott was a cast member on Saturday Night Live from 2008 to 2012 and also had laugh-out-loud roles in TV series How I Met Your Mother, and films, No Strings Attached, Indebted and Sex Ed. Of course, it's perhaps of little surprise that her name's in lights: her dad is one of Hollywood's comedic legends, Chris Elliott.

Matty Matheson (Neil Fak) in 'The Bear'

The personification of life imitating art is Matty Matheson, who plays Neil Fak in the series, and was, until 2019, a professional chef in his native Canada. Not only has he run infamous Canadian restaurants such as Cà Phê Rang, Prime Seafood Palace, Rizzo’s House of Parm (named after his daughter, Rizzo) and Fonda Balam, all under the umbrella of his hospitality company Our House, but he’s also become something of a cooking TV personality. In the past few years alone, he's been the face of numerous food programs such as Vice’s Munchies, Dead Set on Life and It’s Suppertime as well as YouTube series Cookin’ Somethin’ W/ Matty Matheson and Stupid F*cking Cooking Show. The Bear may be his first professional acting gig, but something tells us it won't be his last...

Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Richard Jerimovich) in 'The Bear'

He may have been awarded a Golden Globe, Critics' Choice and a SAG award for his portrayal of the lovable Richie in The Bear, but this is far from Moss-Bachrach's first rodeo. The Brooklyn-based actor also starred in Lena Dunham's seminal series Girls, dipped his toe into films with last year's hit rom-com No Hard Feelings and will make his Marvel debut opposite Vanessa Kirby and Pedro Pascal in next year's Fantastic Four installment.
