Caps Lock On: Summer Ready Headwear We're Backing
Go for slogans or pledge allegiance to your restaurant of choice; the cap is the ultimate accessory, rain or shine.
So, as spring seems to have arrived warm-weather dressing is on the top of our minds; literally, you heard it here first: it’s cap-on summer. Rain (it’s inevitable) or shine, a cap is an all-weather accessory staple, and there are two distinct schools of thought concerning this particular style for 2024.
The first is camp slogan cap, and the stranger the quote, the better. If you’re looking for a place to start, IDEA Books are a good jumping-off point. Yes, the same IDEA books with some of the best rare fashion and art volumes also have hats; you’ve probably seen them around.
There’s a very, shall we say, broad selection of embroidery to choose from. See ‘Out for Lunch’ to let your colleagues know that question can wait, or snag a cream style with blue embroidered ‘tuna mayo’ to really let them know what’s on the menu. Another reads, ‘techno is my boyfriend’, and there’s an ‘I don’t work here’ iteration, but move quickly—more than half of them have sold out.
The other team is up for playing ball with a logo; see the New York Yankees cap, of which J-Lo and Rihanna are fans. Sports covers a lot of ground, and there are more to choose from outside the playing field. Miu Miu’s denim variety has a more polished air, while Jacquemus’s distressed La Casqute number with drawstrings has decided cool girl energy.

The cap’s origins came into play across the pond and is a pretty ubiquitous item of clothing in the pages of America’s sartorial history. As early as the late 19th century, baseball players began donning the style, so you know this is an accessory with some serious staying power.
Kristen Stewart is a key cap connoisseur. Recently, she was pictured pledging her allegiance to the city’s new it-bar, The Mulberry. See FRAME’s Ritz Paris style for a similar look. Anya Taylor-Joy, a cap fan, was recently spotted in a lemon-yellow style in New York.
Like the logo vs slogan sparr, there are equally two major styling notes to take away. One is the off-duty incognito look. Think long shorts, or dare we say it, barrel jeans best brought together by a crisp white vest or oversized shirting. The other option is to see the cap as a grounding force for more floaty summer looks. A cap dresses down tiered skirting or adds an edge to summer cottons. At the end of the day, get locked in on the caps this summer; you won’t regret it.
