Keira Knightley wore a simple, knee-length tulle dress for her low-key wedding to Klaxons musician James Righton in the South of France this weekend.

After exchanging vows in front of just 10 guests, the actress emerged from the town hall in Mazan, situated 12 miles from Marseilles, looking radiantly happy as she skipped away in flat pumps, hand-in-hand with her new husband.

The lack of the traditional big white dress should come as no real surprise: in the lead-up to the big day, the actress was adamant that a big production, ‘fairytale wedding’ was not for her. Initial reports had suggested that she even went as far as recycling her wedding dress, so similar was it to the Rodarte gown she wore to a pre-Bafta party in 2008.

In fact, the face of Chanel Coco Mademoiselle perfume wore a bespoke blush pink dress, created by Chanel’s creative director Karl Lagerfeld. Frothy and feminine, with just a hint of 1950s Riviera chic, it was teamed with a pearl Chanel jacket and ballet pumps, and Keira’s own antique necklace.

The bride chose to keep her make-up to a minimum and wore her mid-length hair loose about her shoulders: a discreet floral garland a bohemian alternative to a veil. Her groom, James Righton, also eschewed tradition, ditching the morning suit for a navy blue made-to-measure two piece, paired with dark shades for a hint of rock n’roll cool.

The casual vibe continued as some of the guests returned to the nearby Chateau de Mazan to toast the newlyweds, while the rest of the party headed straight to the £3 million estate owned by the actress' family, on the outskirts of Provence, for a marquee party, which continued late into the night. It is reported that the couple will have another reception when they return to Britain.
