It usually takes just one look at our favorite celebrities on the red carpet sporting the season's IT hair cut to make us rush to the nearest hairdressers for an A-list-inspired chop or drastic dye job.

However, a few days later, said celebrities seem to have defied science, reverting back to their natural hair colors and styles in a matter of hours, making us instantly regret the now dodgy roots and whispy fringes we're left with.

The reason for their instant transformation? Wigs.

Wigs have become a staple beauty accessory for celebrities, helping them keep on-tend with the latest beauty styles and colors without having to take the plunge. Unfortunately, our naivety to this has left many of us growing out weird lobs, rainbow hair and the odd undercut for years.

So, it was refreshing to hear Keira Knightley – who has sported pixie crops interspersed with longer locks in the past – finally admit she's been wearing wigs for the past five years.

Yesterday, the actress revealed she had dealt with hair loss with several wigs. We did wonder how she grew out her lob so quickly.

'I have dyed my hair virtually every colour imaginable for different films,' she told InStyle UK

'It got so bad that my hair literally began to fall out of my head! So for the past five years I've used wigs, which is the greatest thing that's ever happened to my hair,' she added.

As a result, we've rounded up a list of our favourite celebrities that reach for the wig instead of the scissors to achieve their fashionable looks.

The 19-year-old reality star has been wearing brightly coloured wigs for years, taking her hair from a short black bob to Barbie blonde hair in a matter of hours.

The star recently shared a video of her rainbow wig collection to her fans.

No stranger to wigs, last year the singer donned a black pixie cut on the red carpet of the Met Gala before switching to a bright green one for the after party.

From a red Jessica Rabbit-inspired red wig to a black bouffant hairstyle for the Golden Globes earlier this year, it seems Perry can wear any coloured wig.

Earlier this year, Kim Kardashian unveiled newly blonde locks at her husband Kanye West's Yeezy Season 3 fashion show before admitting it was just a wig and dyeing it back to her natural black hair.

After years of dyeing her hair for Nickelodeon programmes such as Victorious and Sam & Cat, the singer revealed she has been wearing weaves, wigs and hair extensions for years after destroying her hair with bleach.

She once said: 'My real hair is back to brown and I wear extensions, but I wear it in a ponytail because my actual hair is so broken that it looks absolutely ratchet and absurd when I let it down.'

After years of sporting a fantastic array of brightly colored wigs, it's shocking to learn that Lady Gaga's natural hair colour is jet black. From neon yellow, and white-blonde bow horns to black fringes and turquoise crops, we love Gaga's weekly wig changes.

The queen of wigs is Beyoncé. In 2013, the songstress chopped off her natural hair to reveal a short blonde crop before rocking floor-length french braids, a short curly undo and an afro in her Formation video.

The blonde singer is proud of her use of wigs, once admitting: 'Everything is fake. I haven't seen [my real hair] since 9th grade.' It's not a surprise seeing as she once dyed her hair ice blue and pink during her No Doubt days.

Zendaya

The girl always giving us #hairgoals is Zendaya who rocks a different wig on every red carpet event she's seen at. Our favorite? Her super-short pixie at the 2015 BET Awards.

Sia

Human-camouflage extraordinaire Sia is never not seen without her iconic blonde blunt wig. The reason – anonymity.

'I'm not doing it because I think I'm ugly; I'm trying to have some control over my image. And I'm allowed to maintain some modicum of privacy. But also I would like not to be picked apart or for people to observe when I put on ten pounds or take off ten pounds or I have a hair extension out of place or my fake tan is botched,' she once said.

Kendall Jenner

Last year, Kendall sported a short fringe and bun at the Amercian Music Awards to later reveal the fringe was in fact clip-in bangs.

Gigi Hadid

Not to be outdone by her best friend Kendall, Gigi rocked a blonde lob wig for the AMAs, which showed her natural hairline.

Her stylist Bryce Scarlett said: 'Gigi really wanted to do something fun and different, the dress had a high neckline and a lot of interest in the front so we knew it needed to be something sleek.'

Rihanna

From bold bobs to punk pixies, red velvet coloring to buzz cuts, Rihanna has had every hairstyle under the sun. Her latest look is a mid-length light brown do with 50s-inspired fringe.

Right, that's it. We're off to buy a set of multi-coloured wigs.
