'[I've had] such a crazy week, the last thing I want to think about is what I'm wearing,' said Victoria Beckham on Instagram, an hour after her SS18 collection had gone live to the world at New York Fashion.

Fashion week is stressful as hell, sure, but VB's (wise) words resonate in all areas of life. Especially on a Sunday afternoon, when you're struggling to construct something spectacular out of the embers of your wardrobe for the coming week.

Because she's right. When you're a full-time designer, businesswoman, mother, wife and all-round superhuman (plus previous ELLE cover star), you haven't got time to waste picking out the perfect outfit.

There really should only be two rules: know what suits you, and stick to it. Oh, and then buy at least ten of said items.

Which is why we can't get enough of the surprisingly pared-back look Victoria debuted during her final NYFW bow (note to self: she owns at least six or seven versions of that crisp white tee).

ELLE's editor Anne-Marie Curtis attributes the powerful simplicity of the designer's outfit to her growing fearlessness, and evidence she's becoming more comfortable in her skin.

'To come out in jeans and a t-shirt? It had a feeling of confidence,' she says. 'Obviously, they were perfectly tailored jeans and you want to know exactly where she got the white tee because it was so pristine. But that's the thing about Victoria, even when she's doing something very simple, it's very thought out. She still looks very pulled together.'

This air of confidence was something you could feel radiating throughout her SS18 collection, too, says Anne-Marie.

'Victoria is a properly established now name, and you can really sense [that from her collections] because I don't think she feels the need to make big statements. She's got much more of a signature: you know you're going to get the tailored jacket, the reworked suit etc.

The collection itself was quite carefree, and airy, she says.

'There was a real kind of lightness and happiness to it, and lots of strong colour blocking. But it just shows you how far she's come. When you think back to when she first started - with those galaxy-esque dresses - she's now got the confidence to play around with fabrics and textures.

'As a designer, she's reworked that incredible working woman wardrobe: the collection is very strong and feminine at the same time, which epitomises Victoria herself.'
