Ryan Reynolds has let the cat out the bag.

A few weeks after he welcome his second child with Blake Lively, the actor revealed that he and his wife are now proud parents to two girls during an appearance on US talk show, Conan, on Wednesday night.

"Two under two is tough," he told the TV host, before adding, "Yeah, a lot of estrogen. It's like an American Girl doll took a s--t on my life."

The news that their daughter James, who will turn two in December, has a little sister is lovely to hear, but an Instagram post shared by Blake a few hours after her husband's TV appearance suggests the announcement wasn't exactly planned.

According to Blake, Ryan "got himself into huge trouble" by letting the news slip on the TV show, and yep, didn't he know it.

"The ways I know that @vancityreynolds got himself into huge trouble on @teamcoco tonight: Not only did he come home with my true love, @levain_bakery cookies, but he personally toasted them for me and brought me a cup of milk WITH ICE. Literal brownie points," Blake wrote.

Considering the couple have not yet confirmed any details around the birth of their second daughter, who was reportedly born at a Manhattan hospital on 30 September, there's a good reason why he tried to apologise to his wife.

And it's not the first time he has mentioned their child's gender in public. In October, Ryan tweeted, "The mobile above my daughter's crib is just a whole bunch of NuvaRings. So she remembers how lucky she is."

It was unclear if he was referring to his daughter James or the newborn, but at least the hint-dropping is over now.

As for the "I'm sorry" gift of warmed-up cookies and ice-cold milk? Now that's true love.
