Choosing the line-up for a Saturday Night Live show is pretty much like baking a cake.

Pour in a dollop of cringe-worthy humour about Donald Trump, add a few cups of hilarious monologue by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, an imitation of Taylor Swift by Kristen Wiig, sprinkle a surprise appearance from the likes of Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds and Justin Timberlake, bake for two hours and voilá, you've got yourself a show.

But the perfect SNL cake is about to taste a lot sweeter because it's just been announced La La Land's Ryan Gosling will be hosting the upcoming season 43 premiere of Saturday Night Live on 30 September.

Ladies, put those bras back on, we haven't finished.

The programme will also see musician Jay Z take to the stage as the musical guest for the night, as announced by a picture on Twitter with the names of the two heavy-hitters' on a cork board.

This won't be the first time Gosling has appeared on SNL, having first hosted the show in 2015. Meanwhile, the 4:44 singer - whose wife recently showed her support for his new music with her trainers - was a music guest in 2000, 2002, and 2017, plus two cameos.

Mark the date in your diaries people, this is happening.
