The trials and tribulations of motherhood are something the Kardashian-Jenner family have known all-too well in recent years.

From Kim's potentially life-threatening condition, placenta accreta, during her first two gestations, Khloé and Kylie's rumoured pregnancies and Kourtney's ever growing brood, it's safe to say the famous reality stars have seen it all.

But for the first time ever, 36-year-old Kim has opened up about the devastating loss of an embryo before she fell pregnancy with son Saint and the frustration of being unable to carry her third child.

In a recent episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, the media mogul revealed the family's decision to use a surrogate for their third child was a 'different process' than her first two pregnancies.

'The fact that this is just what we can do these days, I'm like really thankful,' she admitted.

'Like I'm seriously so grateful for her and that someone is just so like selfless and kind to do this. And I definitely want to keep it private. I don't want people to find my surrogate. Like I don't want them to harass her. Like she doesn't know how to handle stuff like that, this isn't her world.'

Kim, who recently accidentally revealed she was expecting a girl on the Ellen Show, added that she was frustrated to be unable to carry her own child, third time round.

'It is frustrating like to not be able to do it on your own,' she continued.

'It is a weird dynamic. Like I go to all the doctor's appointments and I try to be really present, but when you're not carrying it yourself it is such a fine balance of how much you're going to be in their lives.

I don't want people to find my surrogate. I don't want them to harass her.

'Of course I want to know ever last detail that's going on with my baby and that's super frustrating, but I really trust my surrogate and I don't want to be that person that's trying to control her every move. It's going to be a long hard process but I'm going to take it one day at a time and hopefully it just gets easier.'

Last month, the Californian-based star admitted that her surrogate didn't even know she was carrying the famous pair's child at the beginning of her pregnancy.

I really trust my surrogate and I don't want to be that person that's trying to control her every move

Opening up about her relationship with the family's surrogate, Kim explained: 'Getting a surrogate and finding someone that you really trust really is so much more for difficult of a situation than you could really imagine.

'You have to make sure that their lifestyle is healthy and they have to go through psychological testing, and it was maybe a year before we finalised our current situation.

'But I think everything happens for a reason, because the surrogate that I really loved got approved and she is such a nice person; she's so easy to talk to and she's the perfect fit for us, but we have to decide quickly, are we really going to go through with this or are we gonna wait until we feel more prepared.'

In the episode, Kim's younger sister Khloé also revealed the mother-of-two had gone through the loss of an embryo before her pregnancy with her second child so was cautious at the beginning of the surrogacy process.

Khloé explained: 'Before Kimberly got pregnant with Saint, she had an embryo implanted into her and that embryo did not take. So Kim is super nervous and anxious during this waiting period. Of course she wants to know is she or is she not having another baby.'

Well, one thing's for sure - the Kardashian-West family is having another baby and it's due next month!
