Days after her co-star Timothée Chalamet pledged to donate his salary from upcoming Woody Allen film, A Rainy Day in New York, to three different charities including Time's Up, Selena Gomez has reportedly stepped forward to follow suit.

A source close to Gomez told People that while Gomez hasn't made a public statement against the director, she 'made a significant donation anonymously' to the Time's Up Legal Defence Fund that 'far exceeded her salary for the film'.

Gomez has faced backlash from fans in recent months who criticised her decision to work with the filmmaker - following allegations of sexual assault by his daughter Dylan Farrow, which he denies.

The 25-year-old's reported donation come two months after the 'Bad Liar' singer told Billboard that she was unsure how to properly respond to the people who criticised her for signing on to the film.

'To be honest, I'm not sure how to answer — not because I'm trying to back away from it,' she said at the time.

'[The Harvey Weinstein allegations] actually happened right after I had started [on the movie]. They popped up in the midst of it. And that's something, yes, I had to face and discuss. I stepped back and thought, "Wow, the universe works in interesting ways".'

Yesterday, Gomez's mother and former manager Mandy Teefey revealed Gomez failed to take her advice about choosing not to work with the Manhattan filmmaker.

'Sorry, no one can make Selena do anything she doesn't want to. I had a long talk with her about not working with him and it didn't click,' she wrote.

'Her team are amazing people. There is no fall person here. No one controls her. She makes all her own decisions. No matter how hard you try to advise. It falls on deaf ears.'

On the day the Time's Up Legal Defense Fund was announced, Gomez took to social media to express support for the moveemnt.

'It's time to shift the balance in the workplace, from representing the few to representing us all,' she wrote in an Instagram post.
