The royal couple were warmly welcomed by members of the public, before being officially greeted by the Band of the Royal Marines and The Royal Regiment of Scotland's lovable mascot - a Shetland pony named Cruachan.

Cruachan appeared to be so overwhelmed by meeting royalty, that he almost tried to nibble affectionately at Prince's Harry's hand. Luckily Harry showed off some very quick reflexes, and dodged his hand away just in time, before playfully berating the pony.

The 33-year-old royal and Markle - who aptly wore a Burberry navy blue and dark green tartan coat for the occasion - will be spending their visit learning more about organisations that work in the local community and nationwide, and celebrating youth in the Scottish Year of Young People 2018.

During their tour of the castle, the pair observed the firing of the One O'clock Gun - a tradition which started in 1861 to mark time for ships in the Firth of Forth.

The second stop of their engagement will include visiting Social Bite, a social business and cafeĢ located in Edinburgh's New Town set up to provide food and hot drinks to homeless people in the area.

Social Bite runs social enterprise cafeĢs throughout Scotland which distribute 100,000 items of food and hot drinks to homeless people each year, as well as employing staff who have experienced homelessness at some point in their lives.

Harry and Meghan will speak with staff, tour the kitchen and learn more about the enterprise.

The couple will conclude their tour by attending a reception at the Palace of Holyroodhouse to celebrate youth achievements, marking Scotland's Year of Young People 2018.

The Year of Young People aims to inspire Scotland by celebrating the achievements of young people, and giving them support to share their views on social issues and creating new opportunities for them to excel.

Harry and Meghan are due to marry at Windsor Castle on 19 May. We're hoping Cruachan might make a appearance....
