Meghan Markle has attended her first official event with the Queen, just a few weeks before she marries into the royal family.

Markle and her fiancé accompanied the monarch at a special service to mark Commonwealth Day at Westminster Abbey. The bride-to-be was dressed in a white/cream Crombie coat by British fashion designer Amanda Wakeley, which she paired with a matching beret and the Mulberry 'Small Darley' clutch bag in bright navy.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were also among the 2,000-strong congregation, alongside the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, Princess Anne and the Countess of Wessex. Kate wore a bespoke Chiara Navy Coat from Beulah London for the occasion.

Markle's appearance has been described as a 'public acknowledgement' by the Queen of Harry's future wife. It comes after the former Suits star joined Harry and the rest of the royal family for their traditional Christmas Day service in Sandringham.

The former actress is clearly keeping up with 2018's hottest fashion trends with the classic French beret a staple of winter outfits this season.

The Queen has been Head of the Commonwealth since 1952. Throughout her reign, the Commonwealth has grown from seven to 53 members and the annual service is the largest inter-faith gathering in the UK.

This year, the event has embraced the theme of 'Towards a Common Future' to emphasise how the Commonwealth can address global challenges and work to create a better future for all citizens. It included performances by One Direction's Liam Payne and a reflection by Dr. Andrew Bastawrous, an eye surgeon who turned his smartphone into a tool which works to reduce avoidable blindness in developing counties.
