The majority of Hollywood were showing their allegiance to the Time's Up movement at the Golden Globes last night which was heartening to witness, but Justin Timberlake's solidarity has received an angry backlash on Twitter.

The 36-year-old singer shared a photo of himself and wife Golden Globe nominee Jessica Biel both dressed in black, and with Timberlake sporting a Time's Up badge on his jacket.

'Here we come!!' he had captioned the picture. 'And DAMN, my wife is hot! #TIMESUP #whywewearblack.'

Part of the initiative's request was that all women wear black to show their support and raise awareness for equity and parity for women in every workplace.

But it was his badge which prompted a wave of criticism on Twitter because of his involvement in Woody Allen's latest film Wonder Wheel.

Filmmaker Allen remains a controversial figure in the wake of the outpouring of allegations of sexual assault in the film industry. This is because of his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow's claim of sexual abuse against him in 1992, when she was seven.

Allen has never been found guilty of child sex abuse.

One user on Twitter wrote: 'You gotta quit working with Woody Allen if you're gonna wear that button, love.'

Another added: 'Is it hypocritical that, for example, Justin Timberlake is head to toe in black but was in the last Woody Allen movie?'

Similarly Lena Dunham was also called out after she posed in a photo with supporters of the cause and activists, including Hollywood stars Reese Witherspoon, America Ferrera and Tracee Ellis Ross. Some accused Dunham of implying that actress Aurora Perrineau was lying about her claims of sexual assault against Girls' writer Murray Miller.

The writer and actress apologised on Twitter, but has been keeping a low-profile since her original tweet.

Selena Gomez recently came under fire for starring in Allen's upcoming film, and recently said of her appearance amidst the controversy to Billboard: 'To be honest, I'm not sure how to answer - not because I'm trying to back away from it.

'[The Harvey Weinstein allegations] actually happened right after I had started [on the movie]. They popped up in the midst of it. And that's something, yes, I had to face and discuss. I stepped back and thought, 'Wow, the universe works in interesting ways'.'
