Things To Do In London This Weekend: June 16 -18
Art! Champagne! Fashion! Bagel raves! The next 48 hours has it all
FOOD: TASTE of London
If you often find yourself torn between going to Duck & Waffle, Temper or Oldroyd for dinner, then a) we want to be you, because you know how to live; and b) your dilemma has just been solved. Because this week you can eat at them all – plus many more top London restaurants such as Roka, Les 110 de Taillevent and Javamar – in one place: Regent's Park. Which can only mean that foodie fest TASTE of London festival is back for five days of dining (see above), demos (Ollie Dabbous, Thomasina Miers, Neil Rankin) and drinking (Sipsmith, Truman's Beer, Smashing Wines), and Laurent Perrier masterclasses. Two words of advice: Elasticated. Waistband.
14-18 June; from £17
Taste of London, Regent's Park, NW1 4NR
NIGHTLIFE: Between the Sheets
Q: 'So what are you up to tonight?' A: 'Me? Oh, I'm just going to a contemporary burlesque cabaret extravaganza. Yourself?' If you'd like to have this very conversation (and who wouldn't want to have that very conversation), we bring you good news. Because from this Thursday there IS a contemporary burlesque extravaganza happening right here, at the Southbank, and it's known as Between the Sheets. Returning to Underbelly Festival for a summer run, this night is billed as a thrill-seeker's paradise – featuring, as it does, 'comic naughtiness', 'gasp-inducing spectacle' and 'explosive burlesque performances'. And corsets aplenty, we'd wager. Go, gasp, and get very glittery.
From 15 June; £17.50
Underbelly Festival, Belvedere Road, London, SE1 8XX
ART: Grayson Perry: The Most Popular Art Exhibition Ever!
A test for the theory of nominative determinism if ever there was one, could the new exhibition from the nation's preeminent transvestite potter become, well, the Most Popular Ever? The signs are promising. A sideways look at the popular and the populist in today's Britain via pots (ooh, empty vessels…), woodcuttings, sculpture and tapestry, it's nothing if not (intentionally?) readable, knowingly witty, and very, very astute. Expect winking slogans – 'Flat whites against racism', 'Join our group of unique individuals' – incisive social commentary (the Leave and Remain camps depicted as matching pots), and a giant phallus on a plinth. Because you've got to have one of those.
Until 8 Sept; free
Serpentine Gallery, Kensington Gardens, W2 3XA
DRINK: Moet Ice Party at Galvin HOP and Ice Truck
When an event name includes the words 'Moet' and 'Party' we don't need asking twice. Especially when said event is set to be held at in the beautiful city garden at Galvin HOP, the 'pub deluxe' (yep, now a thing) from the Michelin-starred Chris and Jeff Galvin. And when it will involve a DJ set, a photobooth and, of course, a shedload of champagne. It's all part of International Moet Party Day (which includes the very first Moet Ice Truck at Bluebird restaurant in Chelsea) an occasion that we've long taken it upon ourselves to celebrate all year round. We're glad everyone else has caught on.
17 June; free
Moet Ice Party, 35 Spital Square, London E1 6DY, Bluebird, 350 King's Rd, Chelsea, London SW3 5UU
MUSIC: Spiritland presents Bagelys
Two days, 20 DJs, 20,000 bagels. We like these numbers. They add up to one hell of a good time – and it's happening this very weekend. Taking over King's Cross canopy market, cool muso bar Spiritland is celebrating the legacy of much-missed warehouse club Bagleys – which was located nearby – via the medium of daytime raving and hot salt-beef bagels. Obviously. The old-skool house tunes come courtesy of legends Mike Pickering (Hacienda), Trevor Jackson (Playgroup) and the iconic Jeremy Healy, while the bagels come with fillings such as Tanqueray-cured salmon and cream cheese or red-pepper hummus and aubergine. Eat, rave, repeat, people.
17-18 Jun, 12pm-8pm; free
Spiritland, King's Cross Canopy Market, N1C
ART: Disobedient Bodies
Ok so it isn't London, but it's only a hop skip and a jump (well a two-hour train journey), and it is your very last chance to see this epic art/fashion exhibition curated by ELLE favourite JW Anderson. Expect sculptures by the likes of Henry Moore, Sarah Lucas and Barbara Hepworth, fashion pieces from Helmut Lang, Vivienne Westwood, Rei Kawakubo, and, don't miss the showing of The Bridegroom Stripped Bare with Alexander McQueen literally deconstructing a Yamamoto suit.
Hepworth Gallery, Gallery Walk, Wakefield, WF1 5AW

POP-UP: Ice Cream Takeover at Balan's Soho Society
There are many troubling aspects of life in 2017. Trump. The DUP. The continued popularity of Ed Sheeran. Luckily, the good folks at Balans Soho Society understand that the most effective way to comfort ourselves is through the eating of some downright delicious ice-cream desserts. So this month, they've let premium producers Jude's Ice Cream take over their sweet menu to serve up such wonders as frozen white chocolate soufflé with sea-salted chocolate ice cream, pistachio cake with olive-oil ice cream and tropical baked Alaska with mango and passion fruit frozen yoghurt. We're feeling better already.
Throughout June
Balans Soho Society, 60 Old Compton St, Soho, W1D 4UG
FUN: Father's Day at Swingers
Your dad, drinking beer, beating you at crazy golf by hitting his ball through a windmill. A classic feature of any childhood trip to the seaside. And this Father's Day, you can relive it all – only this time, you can join in with the drinking part. Hooray! On Sunday, if you challenge your pops to a round at hip crazy golf venue Swinger's, and take along a family photo, you'll receive a free drink for your dad – be it a pint, double barrelled Old Fashioned or a shot of Haig Club Whisky. AND you'll get the chance to finally beat him at that windmill… Sweet revenge, at last.
