ELLE Edit: The Best Lip Tints For Every Make-Up Minimalist

The 'no make-up make-up' to know.

Thanks to a cohort of skinfluencers (see: Bambi Does Beauty) and brands (namely Merit and ILIA), there's a whole new lexicon that straddles the borders of skincare and make-up – from soft-focus cream bronzers packed with ceramides to the endless array of nourishing tinted moisturisers and skin tints. Another skincare-make-up essential you'll find on the shelfies of those influencers? A lip tint.

Unlike the intense colour payoff of a stain and the overtly matte finish of a lipstick, lip tints offer up a happy medium - think a hydrating balm, soft colour boost and barely-there glossy aesthetic.

'Tinted lip formulations are great because they are buildable and provide moderate coverage for a really natural finish,' agrees make-up artist Bobbi Brown. While traditional lipsticks can often be drying, Brown notes that the USP of a lip tint is all about nourishing ingredients, from cocoa butter and plant oils to hydrating hyaluronic acid, all in all making them a firm favourite for sunnier climes.

How to apply a lip tint

'There is no prep or mirror required,' says Brown. 'Simply apply directly onto lips from the bullet and build up the colour to your liking. Reapply as needed throughout the day for a subtle sheen and pop of colour,' she adds. You can also apply your tint to the apple of the cheeks or onto lids for a wash of colour. 'The balmy consistency of a tint makes it perfect for popping on your cheeks for an added flush and luminosity.'

It's these reasons and more why beauty brands are adding lip tints to their roster of make-up and new launches are cropping up more than ever before. From tinted balms to next-gen formulas, discover the latest and greatest lip tints, below...
