Holiday Tried & Tested: Products to prevent peeling and prolong your tan

By Amy Lawrenson

I'm back from my holiday in Portugal where I enjoyed 10 whole days of uninterrupted sunshine, I hear you all had great weather here too so I’m not so smug. I took an arsenal of products with me on holiday (I just couldn't capsule wardrobe my beauty bag) and here are the ones I couldn't have lived without.

Peeling is obviously a no-no, all that hard work sunbathing just for it to peel off as soon as your plane lands on soggy British soil - not fair. I have avoided peeling (so far, fingers crossed) by slathering on large doses of Liz Earle's super cooling Sun Shade Botanical Aftersun Gel, £13 which contains aloe vera and skin friendly Vitamin E. I even popped some onto my scalp when it burnt and it kept my head cool and comfortable all night and didn't mess with my hairstyle.

I ramped up the peel prevention by using a nourishing shower gel too. My top pick is Dove's Pro Age Body Wash which I picked up in Boots for a purse friendly £2. It contains sunflower and olive oil to nourish skin while cleansing it too.

Now I’m home, oils are my new best friend to keep peeling at bay and help prevent my tan from fading fast. I have been liberally slathering Roger & Gallet’s Perfumed Dry Oil, £22 (0800 028 2125) onto my skin. It has such a lovely citrus fragrance that it has made my perfume redundant. I'm also using The Sanctuary's Therapist's Secret Facial Oil, £16.99 on my parched skin. Both oils moisturise my skin and leave me with a healthy sheen.
