Will we ever cease to be amazed by rainbow hair? Answer - nope.

Whether it's crazy colour 'carved' hair, multi-coloured spray paint designs or cartoon bright 3D sticker hair, when it comes to festival season all we want to do is get our rainbow on.

But, if OTT glitter partings and space buns are a bit on the nose for your understated festival get up, then we've found the subtly chic rainbow hair trend you'll be stalking on Instagram until Glasto returns next year. And it's teeny tiny.

Enter baby rainbow hair. Pioneered by psychedelic hair colourist Roxie Jane Hunt, baby rainbow hair is all about swapping all over My Little Pony stripes for tiny prism-like sections. The end result? A trompe l'oeil effect that looks uncannily like sunlight has hit your hair in just the right place. Oh, and it's way easier than posing strategically underneath your crystal collection.

So how does it work? The trick is to leave the majority of your hair au naturel, picking random small sections to dye with multi-coloured stripes. The resulting 'seen through a prism finish' is all due to the tiny rainbow shards that now adorn your 'do.

Speaking to Allure, Hunt revealed that 'the technique only requires taping off rectangular sections of the hair, then colouring the section with stencils and salon-grade Manic Panic dye.'

Forget spending an entire day in the salon, this is the paint palette hair look you can achieve in a mere 90 minutes.

Think the shard of light Instagram filter but IRL. Ideal for all the rainbow minimalists out there (fyi we totally just found our new tribe).

Go teeny tiny with a blink-and-you'll-miss-it patch of rainbow, or opt for multiple barrette-style stripes all over for a more permanent nod to this season's obsession with hair accessories.
