2016 is officially the year of the lips.

First, there were sushi lips.

Then, we had Pat McGrath's glitter lips (making us all question if we could get away with smushing our lips in a tub of glitter for the next Christmas party).

But now, we have the most mesmerising lip of them all – the Geode lip.

This summer, New York City based make up artist Johannah Adams debuted her artistic lip creations that resemble small cavities in rocks lined with crystals and minerals.

Yes, it sounds weird but look at the final product:

From gold metallic pigment to liquid suede in amethyst, Adams' designs have since gone viral on Instagram, with fans desperate to replicate the crystallised designs.

The artist creates the look by using a combination of 'heavy glitter, a colour base, and a thick clear gloss', according to Buzzfeed.

'It's a process of mixing and layering that develops the crystal look. Each look took an hour to make,' she explained.

Okay, so we're still not quite sure how we'd recreate this look without accidentally swallowing half of the pigment but, here at ELLE, we love a challenge.

Geode lips, we're coming for you.
