Not only did she scoop one of the night's biggest awards, she was also one of our best dressed, channeling old school Hollywood glamour in a black, curve hugging Zac Posen dress, teamed with a glossy forties chignon, fastened with Chopard diamonds. The best hairstyle of the red carpet season so far in our opinion.
Angelina Jolie was grown-up and glamorous eschewing her understated red carpet uniform of late for a dazzling, structured black and neon yellow cocktail dress by Giorgio Armani.
One of our other favourite dresses of the night was newcomer Frida Pinto's blush-pink, Oscar de la Renta gown. 'I've always wanted to wear an Oscar de la Renta dress', the Slumdog star told us on the red carpet. The film was nominated for a record 11 awards and was the night's biggest winner netting Danny Boyle a Best Director award, as well as BAFTAS Best Film prize.
While Frida managed to fulfil her red carpet fashion dream, she missed out on the Best Supporting Actress award to Penelope Cruz, who teamed her Alaia gown with a new super- sleek new blunt fringe.
Also worth an honourable mention for their stylel choices last night were Thandie Newton in vintage, and Meryl Streep who showed everyone how to shop their wardrobes credit crunch style, by sporting a dress she has owned for thirty years.
