In the same breath that Emma Stone revealed the back of her dress had split open, she also sent a powerful message to her daughter. If there's anything that sums up why we love the now second-time Oscar winner, there it is.

A goddess in mint green, Stone made her way to the podium of the Academy Awards after it was revealed she had won one of the biggest and most esteemed awards of the night for Best Actress in Poor Things. Indeed it was a moment Stone will likely remember forever for multiple reasons, as when the star made her way to the stage, evidently shocked by her second win, her dress decided to give out on her too.

Great comedic timing comes naturally to Stone (remember Easy A?) and, so, the actor announced the malfunction, quickly laughing it off while telling a room full of her peers when the dreaded wardrobe glitch happened. ‘My dress is broken. I think it happened during "I'm Just Ken",’ she joked.

Stone then swiftly moved on and profusely thanked the director of Poor Things, Yorgos Lanthimos. ‘That is the best part about making movies is all of us together,’ Stone said, close to tears. ‘And I am so deeply honoured to share this with every cast member, with every crew member, with every single person who poured their love and their care and their brilliance into the making of this film. And you go thank you for the gift of a lifetime in Bella Baxter.’

Then, in a moment that would thaw the heart of even the most hardened Hollywood director, Stone thanked the film crew, her husband and their soon-to-be three-year-old daughter, too. ‘ I really just want to thank my family, my mom, my brother Spencer, my dad, my husband Dave – I love you so much. And, most importantly, my daughter who's gonna be three in three days and has turned our lives technicolour.’ She concluded her speech, by saying: ‘ I love you bigger than the whole sky, my girl.’ The La La Land actor hastily turned around and headed off stage, but not before humorously telling the audience ‘Don't look at the back of my dress!’.

Those closely following the dress saga will be pleased to know, the problem has now been resolved as she excitedly told the press room, Oscar award in hand, that they ‘sewed her back in!’. And, relax.
