‘Handbags are king. Always!’ the label’s co-founder, Jean Monnier (who owns the business with his brother Guillaume – get it?) told us when we caught up with him about all things Christmas this week.

Monnier Frères is a recent ELLE discovery, and a real hidden treasure – a dedicated accessories boutique that’s second to none. (And it’s French.)


‘We thought the online market could welcome a new retailer that specialises in high end woman’s accessories,’ Monnier explains. ‘It seems to fill a hole as customers could buy "looks" at Net-A-Porter or Mytheresa, but could not replicate the experience on the floor at a department store: everything all in one place, whilst reading all there is to know about this season’s latest handbags.

‘This is our proposition. We offer 1500 new handbags every season and this is at least twice as much as the closest competitor. For each brand, we carry more products than anyone else.’


Not only does Monnier Frères have more choice than anywhere else you might care to browse, it’s also stocked with exclusives from the likes of Vanessa Bruno, Jérôme Dreyfuss, Carven and Zadig & Voltaire – making it a one-stop shop for finding a piece by your favourite designer that you’re not guaranteed to see on everyone else.

But with so much choice, how does one, well, choose? Predictably, Monnier has some words of wisdom on the subject: ‘Always bet on fashion products instead of "status" products.
