Celebrities on Twitter is nothing new - so much so, that we find ourselves being almost surprised when we discover a familiar name has just taken the plunge for the first time.

Step forward Sarah Jessica Parker, who has nabbed the auspicious handle @SJP and last night hit 'go' on her maiden 140-character missive:

'Very 1st tweet. Proud to share my new series city.ballet. on AOL On. @NYCballet dancers = extraordinary! … http://say.ly/dCH78Y4'.

If you were expecting a side of beautiful imagery with her musings, however, prepare to be disappointed: her profile picture is a close-up of her (admittedly, immaculately made-up) eye.

But the real question is: will she get hooked? Victoria Beckham was famously late to the Twitter game and now, there's no stopping her, with one of the most sophisticated social media strategies on the web - though she's still got a ways to go to catch up with Twitter queen Katy Perry, who this week knocked Justin Bieber off his Most Followed perch with 46.5 million followers.

Time hit the ground running, @SJP.
