News just in, Tom Ford has had a baby son, called Alexander John Buckley Ford, with his civil partner, Richard Buckley.

The news was broken on Twitter by fashion journalist Cathy Horyn of the New York Times, and quickly retweeted by others in the world of fashion.

The full announcement from Tom Ford’s representative reveals that Alexander John was born in Los Angeles on September 23rd, 2012.

Tom Ford, 50, and Richard, who is a writer, have been together for 25 years. They first met in 1986, in a lift at WWD, where Richard worked at the time.

Earlier this summer, Tom Ford told New York Magazine his philosophy on celebrity child rearing. He said,

‘If I have children, no one will know about it until the child is born. And no one will ever see the child because I certainly wouldn’t use it as a press tool. If I have a child, you’ll see and notice that I had a child. Maybe you’ll see it when it’s 18, but I will keep it out of the spotlight. I wouldn’t use it as a press tool, as some people I know have, recently.’

Well, he was as good as his word: though he would have known when he spoke that the arrival of his own child was imminent, he gave no indication that he was about to become a father. So here's looking forward to our first glimpse of the no doubt impeccably dressed Alexander in 2030.
