Richard Nicoll nixes show plans

The runway exodus continues, with Richard Nicoll cancelling his upcoming autumn-winter 2012 show in favour of a more intimate on-schedule presentation.

‘I am excited to be at a stage with the brand where we feel confident to present the next collection in an intimate and special way to our buyers and press that is commercially and creatively relevant,’ Nicoll said in a statement.

The designer’s announcement comes just a day after LVMH said it would downscale Celine’s forthcoming show to a presentation. Although Celine positioned that move as way to reduce demands on designer Phoebe Philo, who is due to give birth to her third child in April, Nicoll said he expected to pursue more intimate presentations beyond the coming season.

‘We will employ this format globally throughout the year for the four collections that we produce and sell this year,’ he explained.

A representative for Nicoll said the designer was eager to create a more special, interactive format for guests in an environment that promoted conversations about the clothes.
